Carotid Ultrasound/Carotid Doppler

A Transcranial Doppler and Cognitive Testing

A Carotid Ultrasound/Carotid Doppler is a painless noninvasive procedure that uses sound waves to check the flow of blood through the Carotid Arteries. The Carotid Arteries are a pair of blood vessels in your neck that supply blood to the brain. The test will check for narrowing or blockage in one or both Carotid Arteries. This is often due to the buildup of plaque and can lead to a TIA or stroke.

Transcranial Doppler (TCD)

A Transcranial Doppler (TCD) measures the flow of blood within the brain. It measures the rate and direction of blood flow inside the vessels. Neither test involves radiation.
There is no special preparation for either test. You will be awake during the test. Simply wear comfortable loose fitting non collared shirts and leave off any necklaces or hanging earrings. Each test takes approximately 20 minutes.

Cognitive Testing

Dr. Schneider performs Cognitive Evaluations and Dementia assessments. Such assessments can be performed to evaluate complaints or forgetfulness up to and including Alzheimer’s dementia. Dr. Schneider will also screen patients for any modifiable/treatable causes of Cognitive decline.
