Electroencephalogram

An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a diagnostic test that records your brain waves (ie. your brain electrical activity). Brain cells communicate with each other through electrical impulses.

Reasons for an EEG

An EEG can be used to detect potential problems associated with brain activity. EEG testing is performed for several conditions including seizures, memory disturbance, head trauma, sleep disorders and changes in behavior.

The EEG Procedure

During an EEG a technician places small electrode discs on your scalp using special paste. A computer will record the electrical signals of your brain. Please wash your hair the night prior to the procedure but do not put conditioner or styling products on until after the test. Please refrain from eating or drinking caffeinated products for 8 hours before your test.
